Pauline "Polly" Boston
Art was my hobby during my 22-year career as a public school music teacher, but I have always liked to draw.
When my children were babies, I took the Famous Artists’ School correspondence course and learned the fundamentals of drawing. During my music teaching years, I was commissioned to paint many charcoal portraits, scratchboard pictures, and acrylic paintings. I even painted sweatshirts for my fellow teachers.
My commissioned charcoal portrait of the local librarian checking out books for children hangs in the public library in Columbiana, Ohio, my hometown. My work was selected to hang in the Butler Museum of Art in Youngstown Ohio.
After I retired from teaching and moved to Florida, I discovered watercolor. After studying with several excellent teachers at ArtCenter Manatee in Bradenton (especially Anne Abgott), I began entering juried watercolor competitions. I won membership in the statewide Florida Watercolor Society for three straight years and also have won awards in their yearly competitions.
My painting style is colorful and realistic and encompasses a variety of subjects. I have won many awards in juried art competitions in the Bradenton/Sarasota area, where I was a member of the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society.
In 2016 I traveled to France for a watercolor class with Judy Morris. Since moving to Citrus County in 2017, I joined the Citrus Watercolor Society and recently won first place in the CWS competition at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park.
I now limit my media to my favorites, watercolor and scratchboard. I love to do commissioned paintings because this involves studying subjects that I would not ordinarily think of to paint, from grandbabies to grizzly bears! I enjoy working with people to produce the perfect piece of memorable artwork for gifts or for their own homes. Contact Polly at (941) 209-0338 or [email protected].
