Giving Back Through Art
The Dunnellon Boys and Girls Club is an afterschool program for children, providing events, programs, and a place to be.
Rainbow Springs Art in Dunnellon also has a relationship with the club and helps out with community art projects and art instruction for the children. The Boys and Girls Club came to Rainbow Springs Art and asked if we could help them with a project. They wanted to paint the restrooms with more color and inspirational, motivational quotes to enable a positive self-image. So Bridget Hanley took on the task of organizing this. It started out with sketched ideas -- lots and lots of Ideas. Then we narrowed it down to a list of quotes that the students liked. We spent another session with the specific quotes and where they would be painted. Then we held another session, meeting with the manager and staff and set a date. On October 6, six artists met and began the magic. A HUGE thank you to: (all professional artists in their own medium) M.A. Pletcher, Linda Reitz, Donna Josephson, Gayle Miller, Marjorie Bannish, and Bridget Hanley. This project also cements our commitment to the community and the City of Dunnellon by showing how we "Pay It Forward" through art. The event was incredibly enjoyable! |

A Check, A Ceramic Quilt:
Building Ties With Youth
"Supporting Art Education and Our Community" is part of the Rainbow Springs Mission Statement. On July 10, 2019, with great pleasure, The Cooperative presented the Boys and Girls Club of Dunnellon a check for $500
for the group's summer program.
The Boys and Girls Club provides many services to the community. These include health care programs, special events, field trips, luncheons, art, and creativity classes. The RSA is honored to be part of this.
Meanwhile, the gallery received a State of Florida Cultural Affairs Department grant to promote the arts in the Dunnellon community.
Again, the gallery teamed with the Boys and Girls Club. This time it was to create a Ceramic Quilt.
Artists of RSA instructed Boys and Girls Club students how to make the ceramic-tile "quilt."
The intent was to extend the art inside the gallery to the outdoors.
The Ceramic Quilt is on permanent display outside the gallery in this "Artification" project to beautify the downtown area.
