James Whitehurst is a glassblower originally from Tampa. He started blowing glass in Your City, Fla., at Ybor Glass and Iron Works in 1989 at the age of 18.
After doing production glass work for four years, James went on to take classes at Georgia Southwestern University, in Americus, Ga., under Ralph Harvey.
Upon returning to Florida, James worked on the teams of Chuck Boux, Duncan McClelland, and Marlene Rose.
Throughout the years, James has taken numerous glassblowing classes at Penland School of Crafts in Penland, N.C., with instructors Rob Levin, Shane Ferro, Fred Birkhill, Rick Beck, and Val Beck.
