Gary Hockman

Picture
Gary D. Hockman was born in rural Ohio and spent his childhood in a farming community near the scenic area of the Hocking Hills. His family often spent time enjoying the caves and waterfalls in the area. Both his farm and places like the Hocking Hills exposed him to nature and influenced his art.
When he was growing up, he spent many hours sketching in the playroom of his home and says he’s been a creative soul since childhood. Color, shape, and texture rule his senses, he says.
The photographs he takes on his adventures are the basis of his work. He sees beauty in both nature and the city and often presents it in a surreal way in his art.
After high school graduation, Gary started working in the prepress department of a printing company. There he learned about concept-design, photography, film separation of color, and how to create an image for printing.
Seeing the finished result come off the printing press always was exciting and fulfilling for him. Eventually, he started his own company, offering businesses his expertise in all aspects of print production.
Several years ago, he started an art business, selling high quality giclee prints of the art he’s created.
He was invited to Rome to participate in an exhibition after a curator saw his work on a Facebook page that features art from around the world.
Gary accepted the invitation and received the Curator’s Choice Award. After the exhibition, he spent a month traveling around Italy, capturing what he saw with his camera.
He recently moved to Florida, where he’s exploring what he considers “the lush areas around me.”
To see and purchase prints from six collections of his art, visit www.hockmanart.com.
His work also can be found on Facebook at Facebook/The Art Of Gary Hockman, and on Instagram at Instagram/The Art Of Gary Hockman.
