Meredith McCartan

Hello, there. My name is Meredith McCartan and I'm so pleased you enjoy my baskets. I began weaving about 15 years ago, taking classes once a month. At that time, I was working full time as a cardiac catheterization tech, registered in radiography and invasive cardiology.
When I retired from medicine, I began doing more weaving and started a monthly Basic Basketry class at my church.
I especially enjoy changing up patterns and working with different materials.
I am also a member of the Nature Coast Basket Makers Guild and also the Tampa Bay Basketmakers Guild, where I served as president for two years before moving to Citrus County in 2016.
I especially enjoy teaching basket weaving and seeing others explore their creative talents. In addition to classes, I can do a basket making party in your home for up to six people.
And if you have a special basket that needs some repair, I will evaluate it to see if it is repairable or could possibly be replaced.
If you have a need for a specific type, size or color of basket, I do custom orders also. You can reach me by email at mcmerr11@gmail.com.
To keep your basket in top condition, spritz it lightly with plain water every six months to remove dust and keep the reeds moisturized. Just be certain to let it dry thoroughly (do not use heat or the sun to dry it), so it does not attract mildew.
     Thank you for your interest.

Take Meredith's April 28th Class

Basket Weaving --
A Basket of Many Uses -- April 28

This month, we will weave a large basket that will hold your afghan, magazines, quilting, knitting , or –- as at my house –- the dog’s toys. The baket will be woven with natural and smoked weeds, and we will embellish it with a band of smocking and, of course, a handle. This basket is suitable for all levels of weavers. Wear your play clothes because the reed is soaked in water for flexibility. You may also want to bring a towel and/or an apron. Snacks and drinks are allowed.

Wed., April 28, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Instructor: Meredith McCartan . Cost: $30, plus $15 for materials to instructor.

Take Meredith's May Class

Basket Weaving -- A Patriotic Basket, May 19
Memorial Day is fast approaching, so let’s do a patriotic red, white, and blue basket, complete with stars.  We will weave a round basket shaped like a small bushel basket with a wood bottom, false rim and two handles.  This useful basket will be a great accent for any holiday picnic or a table decoration.  This class is suitable for all levels of weavers.  Be sure to wear your play clothes because we soak the reed in water for flexibility, and dyed reed can bleed a bit.  You may bring drinks and snacks.
Wed. May 19; 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Instructor: Meredith McCartan; Cost:  $30.00 plus $15.00 material fee to instructor.
