Meredith McCartan

Hello, there. My name is Meredith McCartan and I'm so pleased you enjoy my baskets. I began weaving about 15 years ago, taking classes once a month. At that time, I was working full time as a cardiac catheterization tech, registered in radiography and invasive cardiology.
When I retired from medicine, I began doing more weaving and started a monthly Basic Basketry class at my church.
I especially enjoy changing up patterns and working with different materials.
I am also a member of the Nature Coast Basket Makers Guild and also the Tampa Bay Basketmakers Guild, where I served as president for two years before moving to Citrus County in 2016.
I especially enjoy teaching basket weaving and seeing others explore their creative talents. In addition to classes, I can do a basket making party in your home for up to six people.
And if you have a special basket that needs some repair, I will evaluate it to see if it is repairable or could possibly be replaced.
If you have a need for a specific type, size or color of basket, I do custom orders also. You can reach me by email at mcmerr11@gmail.com.
To keep your basket in top condition, spritz it lightly with plain water every six months to remove dust and keep the reeds moisturized. Just be certain to let it dry thoroughly (do not use heat or the sun to dry it), so it does not attract mildew.
     Thank you for your interest.

Take Meredith's Basket Weaving -- Market Basket Rerun Class

Planned for Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Instructor: Meredith McCartan; Cost: $30, plus $10 to instructor for materials. Class size: Six students maximum; two students minimum.
Back by popular demand! We will start off the year with another class for weaving the basket with the turquoise and braided seagrass trim. Several people who were unable to attend the previous class have requested an opportunity to make this basket. So, here we go! If you already made the market basket but wish to make one in another color -- navy, wine, or smoked -- email the instructor with your color choice at: mcmerr11@gmail.com. Remember to wear your play clothes because we use water for soaking the reed. You may bring drinks and snacks if you wish, and don't forget to wear a mask!

Take Meredith's Spiral Weave Vase Class

We will do a continuous spiral weaving over a glass, which will remain inside the base when you are finished. We will have a contrasting band that swirls around the base and overlaid spokes following the band. This project is suitable for all levels of weavers. You may want to bring an apron or towel because the reed is soaked in water for flexibility. You also may being along something to munch on and a drink. All tools are provided.
         Wednesday, Feb. 17, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Instructor: Meredith McCartan. Cost: $30, plus $10 for materials paid to the instructor at the beginning of the class.
